Scenario :

You have recently graduated and got a job in a newly formed civil construction company which provides services for civil infrastructure construction of land development projects. The company has won a project for the civil infrastructure works for new housing estates in four growth areas of Metropolitan Melbourne which are Whittlesea Council, Hume Council, Melton Council and Wyndham Council. This project package is in separate sites across the four growth areas.

The project scope is constructing the road network and the water network. The road network will include local residential streets, collector roads, arterial roads with necessary features and facilities like kerb and channel, individual lots access/driveway, footpaths, bus stops, bicycle lanes, street lights, etc. The water network will comprise the water mains, drainage and sewer channels (i.e. from individual house lots to housing subdivision main pipes for drainage and sewer, etc.).

These growth areas are the places mostly chosen by young families and new migrants deciding to reside in Melbourne. Some of them are located on previous agricultural areas and a few are sitting on areas with potential aboriginal and indigenous sensitive areas and listed flora and fauna.

A common characteristic is that because they are on the outer suburban areas of Melbourne, they do not have good public transport facilities and connectivity such as trains and buses.

The client specified that you have to adhere to water sensitive urban design guidelines, and smart and sustainable practices for road construction.

You along with other (i.e. 2 to 3) fresh graduate engineers have been assigned to prepare an Integrated Management Systems (IMS) manual that can be used for these multi-site projects.

The manual should accommodate all relevant concerns (quality, safety, environment, etc.) and action plans to achieve those.

You have to complete this manual by Tuesday, 25 October 2022 (Week 13) and present the outcomes to your management group.
