Describe the development of the consumer movement in either mental health or disability
Identify the ways consumer advocacy has influenced policy and social work practice in mental health or disability; and
Provide two related examples of policy or practice initiatives.
Assessment Criteria:
Demonstrate knowledge of the history and impact of the consumer movement on disability or mental health policy and practice in Australia (10%)
Analyse how the consumer movement has influenced current policies related to mental health or disabilities (10%)
Evaluate the impact consumer focussed policy and practice may have on supporting people with mental health issues and / or disabilities and their carers (10%)

Submiteithera recorded presentationORa 1500 word essay on two key social work theories and approaches utilised in intervention strategies for clients with mental health issues and / or disabilities and their carers. You can choose from:

How and when it was developed and who are key leaders in the field
What types of interventions are supported and where are they practiced
What are some of the key practical skills a social worker may need to consider and / or utilise when engaging with clients in this context?
Assessment criteria:
Focus on topic: The selected practice approaches are defined and described. (6 marks)
Support for topic: There are relevant examples and details included that provide elaboration and support for the approaches in relation to mental health/disability (6 marks)
Connection to social work theory and practice: The assessment demonstrates scholarly engagement with concepts from text/readings, lectures and tutorials. (6 marks)
Introduction and conclusion: There is an engaging introduction that previews the content of the assessment. There is a conclusion that summarises the main points. (3 marks)
Use of Harvard or APA referencing style: Referencing is used correctly for all citations and references. (3 marks)
Organisation and writing/presentation style: Information is clear and well-organised with well-constructed paragraphs or explanations. Succinct PowerPoint presentation show with appropriate visuals and text. Sentences are well constructed without spelling or grammatical errors. (6 marks)
Either create a 15-minute (max) PowerPoint Presentation Show or a 1500 word essay.

Assessment 3:Case Study (40%)
Due Date: 10th May 2023 Description:
Provide an overview of social work practice, policy and research implications across the mental health and disabilities sector.
Identify the key needs and strengths of the person in each case study and their family/community
Write up how social work would support the people in this case study scenario via a) Practice, b) Policy and c) Research.
Case studies will be provided on the subject Moodle site.
WORD LIMIT:2,500 total with 1,250 words on a provided case study associated with mental health, and 1,250 words on a provided case study associated with disabilities.
Assessment criteria:
Case study discussion and analysis: The paper includes a sophisticated analysis of case study issues drawing on social work theory and concepts related to social work assessment and intervention in mental health and disability. (10 marks)
Support for topic-examples and elaboration: The paper uses key aspects of the case study to provide clear examples and details to support the analysis. (10 marks)
Support for topic- citations of high-quality sources and textbook: There are frequent citations of social work, mental health/disability theories, drawing on the textbooks and a minimum of five additional high-quality sources. (8 marks)
