This is a two-part assessment aimed at investigating an organisations competitive situation. In Part A, you will prepare and deliver a 7-minute oral presentation that evaluates an organisations vision, mission, values and strategic objectives and makes recommendations for improvement. In Part B, you will submit a written document of 1,000 words (+10%) that analyses and evaluates the organisations external and internal environments and identifies strategic issues that are priorities the organisation needs to address to be competitive.
Subject Learning Outcomes

Task
Analyse and evaluate an organisation's competitive situation to make recommendations for improving the effectiveness and alignment of its vision, mission, values and strategic objectives and identify a list of strategic issues that are priorities the organisation needs to address to be competitive.
The assessment can be based on your current or previous workplace, or any other organisation from the service, not-for-profit, public, manufacturing, or any other industry or sector you are familiar with. You will use the same organisation/company inassessment 2.
Procedure
Part A - Oral presentation
Your presentation needs to address the following:
Briefly describe your chosen organisation and industry context. (~30 seconds)
Provide clear statements of your organisations vision, mission and values. (~one minute)
Identify three strategic objectives of your organisation. (~one minute)
Evaluate the effectiveness and alignment of your organisations statements of vision, mission, value, and strategic objectives. (~two minutes)
Make recommendations on how your organisations statements of vision, mission, value and strategic objectives can be improved. (~two minutes)
Conclude the presentation. (30 seconds)
Note: If your selected organisation does not presently have vision, mission and/or values statements, develop those statements for the organisation and discuss their appropriateness against relevant principles. Similarly, if the selected organisation does not have any strategic objectives, develop three strategic objectives that would be implied throughout the organisations day-to-day business for the evaluation.

Include the following in your supporting document, which should be about 1000 words (+ 10%):
Evaluate your organisations industry and competitive environment using Porters Five Forces framework and present the analysiss main findings and insights. (~300 words)
Apply the VRIN (or VRIO) framework to assess the organisations resources, capabilities, and competitiveness. Present your VRIN (or VRIO) analysis in a table and describe the key points. (~200 words)
Perform a SWOT analysis to identify your chosen organisations strengths, business opportunities, threats, and competitive deficiencies (weaknesses).(~300 words)
Using the insights from the Porters Five Forces and VRIN (or VRIO) frameworks and SWOT analysis, identify and explain three critical strategic issues that are priorities the organisation needs to address to be competitive.(~200 words)
Requirements
The presentation should contain a maximum of10slides using PowerPoint (i.e., a title slide, main slides and a reference slide) and run for7minutes. SeeAssessment guidelinesand theAssessment 1 Part A template.
It is recommended to present in the first-person communication style for this assessment. See Oral presentation skills on the Study Support site, andAIB Style Guide.
Ensure that your supporting document presents a logical flow of information and is well-structured and coherent. Use headings and subheadings to clearly organise different sections. Use theAssessment 1 Part B template.
The title page, reference list and appendix are not included in the word count.
All written assessments should be submitted as Word files (.docx). Word is available from your AIBOffice 365account.

This assessment requires you to use a minimum offive (5)credible academic sources in addition to your textbook. You may also use current company, industry, government and media sources to support your statements, but these will NOT count toward the minimum required credible academic sources for your assessment. Most web-based sources are not sufficiently rigorous and credible for use in academic assessments and will NOT count toward the minimum required credible academic sources for your assessment. You must appropriately acknowledge all sources of information in your assessment following theAIB Style Guide. This includes the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence tools, such as ChatGPT. Penalties apply for submissions that exceed the specified duration or word count limits.
