Assignment Overview:

In 2021, the economy recovered quickly from the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the cost of living has impacted the financial well-being of many Australian households through rising rents, electricity bills, and petrol prices. You will produce a video presentation that discusses how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the financial well-being of a model household discussed in the 2021 QCOSS Living affordability in Queensland report and the 2020 QCOSS Living affordability in Queensland.

You must adopt one of the model households and analyze their budget. You will be allocated a profile :

  • Unemployed single (45 years old) and no dependents
  • Single parent (33 years) with two dependents (seven and three years)
  • Working family (35 and 31 years) with two dependents (seven and three years)
  • Senior couple (both 74 years) and no dependents
  • Single student (21 years) and no dependents

The report does not specify the location of the household. Students will be allocated a Local Government Area. This will be Bowen, Cairns, Gladstone, Maryborough

Answer the following three questions:

1)Derive and present a table that Compares 2020 Expenditure and Income (see Table 1) for the household across all expenditure and income categories with 2021 levels (see Tables 4& 5) for your household. Discuss three main changes in expenditure and income. The key consideration should be given to changes in rents, petrol and food prices

a.How much did Total Income and Total Expenditure grow by?

b. What percentage did the net budget position of the household change from 2020 to 2021?

c.Are the household better off or worse off in 2021 compared to 2020?

2)Develop a 3-point plan for the household to improve its financial well-being. Define Financial well-being. What steps can it take to reduce

i) debt and expenses,

ii) increase savings and

iii) what risks should it manage?

Do research to ensure your plan is realistic and based on sound academic findings and cite these in your presentation. Use at least 2 Academic references.

3)For your specified area, propose an effective but relatively inexpensive new solution that could be implemented by local communities to support vulnerable households in the area and reduce the impact of the cost of living. Use at least 2 Academic References that must be cited. The slides must include a list of references on the final slide.

Crowdsourcing solutions to support positive change in Queensland Communities.
