MBA 6011 Leadership Self-Assessment: Leading Global Virtual Teams - Instructions
Individual Assignment #2 (30%)
Begin by reading Chapter 3 in your Fisher & Fisher text - The Seven Competencies of Effective Virtual Team Leaders. As you read the chapter think about your own leadership as it relates to the seven competencies.
Using the seven concepts in the article and the "Distance Manager Effectiveness Assessment" starting on page 29, assess your current leadership effectiveness and develop a personal leadership improvement plan and write an 8 to 10-page APA style paper.
The paper includes three main sections - the context, the assessment, and the improvement plan.
Section 1 Context - The context is a brief description of your leadership situation for this paper. It could be your current job or if that doesn't include virtual collaboration then you might use your U. Fredericton program as your context for leadership on collaborative teams. This context will be the situation used for the remainder of the paper.
Section 2 Assessment - The second section consists of seven sub-sections including - (1) Leader, (2) Results Catalyst, (3) Facilitators, (4) Barrier Buster, (5) Business Analyzer, (6) Coach, and (7) Living Example. Using the questions for each of the seven areas provided in the Fisher & Fisher text (pages 29- 32) conduct a critical review of your own leadership in a virtual environment. Make sure you identify both strengths and opportunities for improvement in each of the seven areas.
Section 3 Improvement Plan - The third and final section of the report is an improvement plan. Select the most important opportunities for improvement in the second section and develop a personal leadership improvement plan to address those areas. Make sure you include concrete actions and a timeline. Include what you will do in the next 90, 30, and 7 days.
Your discussions in the paper must go beyond simple descriptions and include your critical analysis. In addition, you must go beyond the Fisher & Fisher text and support your analysis with additional references and empirical evidence from the literature.
