The Student-Led Essay for Assessment Four is to:

Students are to choose either aged care or palliative care as a social work practice setting as the topic of their essay.

A theoretical framework, practice method or intervention (or combination of) must be argued for as a recommendation for social work practice in this area.

The format of this essay can be chosen by the student and can be a written traditional essay, a short film, podcast recording, or recorded presentation. Other formats can also be negotiated with the Subject Coordinator.

If a written essay is submitted it is to be 1500 words long (+/- 10%). If an alternative format is chosen it is to be up to 10 minutes long in length but must still contain all of the components of this assessment task.

The components of this assessment task are: an introduction to the field of practice, the body (the theoretical framework/interventions and why you are arguing for them), a conclusion, and references.

UOW Harvard refencing style is to be used for all sources, including books, journal articles, film, television, podcasts, radio.

Scholarly references need to be included, such as journal articles and books. Websites that cannot directly source the author (such as Wikipedia) should not be included. News articles where the author can be directly referenced can be included. There should be at least 8 references for this assessment task.

Students are to upload their assessments to Moodle with their name, the title of the assessment at the top, and the word count (excluding references). For students submitting a written essay this should include the whole assignment. For students submitting an alternative format a cover letter should be submitted to Moodle that includes their name, the title of the assessment at the top, a declaration stating the date that the file has been shared with the Subject Coordinator on OneDrive and a reference list.
