Wave Bay Report Plan
Wave Bay Report Plan
Step 1: Choose a risk factor:
Smoking
Overweight and obesity
Lack of physical activity
Lack of fruit and vegetable intake
Risk Factor =
Step 2: Choose TWO determinants of the risk factor
NOTE: Your risk factor may not be listed in this diagram, but your risk factor will fit into one of the broad categories for social determinants of health. For example, a tax on sugar sweetened beverages is a government policy determinant that can be categorised as a political structure and is an upstream determinant.
Determinant 1 = (upstream/downstream/midstream)
Determinant 2 = (upstream/downstream/midstream)
Step 3: Choose a public health interventionCHECK Does your chosen intervention target ONE of your determinants? If not, you need to either change your intervention OR change one of your determinants.
Your public health intervention MUST target one of your determinants.

[General Instructions Before you submit your final copy
DELETE ALL INSTRUCTIONAL TEXT IN YOUR DOCUMENT (TEXT THAT APPEARS IN SQUARE BRACKETS)
Update your contents page right click on the contents and choose update field and then update entire table. This will update the headings and page numbers of your report.
Check the word count by selecting the text from the introduction to the end of the conclusion (references and the contents page are not included in the word count), and then looking at the bottom of the document window, where Word will show you the word count (Words: 2665/2900 means that 2,665 words are selected, while the entire document contains 2900 words). For university writing, your work should be within 10% of the required word count. For this assignment, your word count from introduction to conclusion should be between 2250 and 2750 words.
NOTE: Paraphrasing (using your own words) is preferred to quoting because it shows that you understand the information and you are able to present it in the context of your research topic. If you have included more than 4 quotes (100 words in total) in your report, you should consider removing the quotes and replacing them with paraphrased information.
Conduct a final proofread and spellcheck.
Once submitted please download your submission and check that you have submitted the correct file.
TIPS:
Read your assessment aloud to check for errors. The Review section in word includes a Read Aloud function that may help you pick up typos and grammatical errors.
Studiosity provides feedback on up to 1500 words of your writing, including organisation and structure, English and academic language, grammar, punctuation and referencing.
Check the grading criteria to ensure you have met each of the criteria listed.]Introduction[Approx. 100-150 words
Provide a brief overview of your report.
Describe the lifestyle risk factor you have chosen and provide context as to why it is important e.g. Why is it an important issue? What are the impacts?
State the aim of the report e.g. This report will describe a public health intervention targeting]
Part 1: Lifestyle Factor[Approx. 500-600 words
Present relevant epidemiological data for the risk factor for Wave Bay, using a measure covered in Week 5.
Compare your estimates for Wave Bay with equivalent national Australian statistics (see Week 4 content for data sources). Is it higher or lower?
Descriptive epidemiology: Discuss the issue in terms of person, place and time factors, as discussed in Week 5. Based on this analysis, do you think there has been change in the risk factor over the last decade? Do you think a particular part of the population is more at risk?
Using the information above, summarise why you think this risk factor should be the target of your public health strategy.]
Part 2: Determinants of Health[Approx. 250 words
Describe two examples of determinants of the risk factor you have identified. For each determinant specify:
Whether the determinant is upstream, mid-stream or downstream
How or why you think it contributes to the risk factor]
Part 3: Intervention strategies
Intervention: Title of Intervention (provide hyperlink to relevant information)[Include the title of your intervention and a direct link to the document or website describing the intervention.
Approx. 600-700 words
Focus on just one of the two determinants you have identified in Part 2 and describe an intervention which could address this determinant.
Think about interventions you are familiar with, either from your own experience, or through media. For instance, you might see an advertisement and look carefully in your local community.
In your description of your intervention, make sure to discuss:
Thenatureof the intervention (include any links or documents that describe it)
How or why you think itaddresses the determinantyou have selected
The type ofaction areait fits into,as described in the Ottawa Charter (seeWeek 8) and the strategy it aligns with.
Thearea of practicemost relevant for this strategy (seeWeek 3)]
Part 4: Application to Wave Bay community
[Approx. 500-600 words
Briefly discuss how the intervention complies (or not) with each of the six ethical principles you covered inWeek 3of the course:
Non-maleficence
Beneficence
Health maximisation
Efficiency
Respect for autonomy
Social justice]
Part 5: Evaluation Plan[Approx. 250 words
In this final section of your report you need to describe how you will evaluate whether your intervention was successful (Week 7)]
Conclusion[Approx. 100-150 words
Summarise the key points of the report and state the implications of the intervention, and/or a suggested future direction for public health interventions in the Wave Bay area.]
