Choose a piece of Childrens literature as defined in class - - either from the list provided, posted on BB , or one of your choice- that you believe is not only a good childrens book but that exemplifies the theme of antibias curriculum. Be sure to include analysis based on Goals of an Anti bias classroom, Stereotypes, 8 Guiding Assumptions and other theories discussed in class.
Choose an age group for which your book is suitable, such as: Infant/toddler, Preschool, Kindergarten or School-age. One book may be suitable for more than one age group. However, you need to focus on ONE age group only for this assignment. Gear your write up to this age group, and indicate the age group at the beginning of your write up.
Analyze your book for the themes mentioned above and share your findings in a written paper.
Please make sure you address the following in your paper:
Title and author of the book
Age group
Brief summary of the story- one paragraph only
Why did you choose this book
What are the anti-bias themes presented
What is the book missing? In what ways does it need to improve? ( at least four of the points from 10 Quick ways to analyze childrens books PDF provided on BB)
Whose identities are included in the book and how are they represented?
Whose identities are not included?
Three questions a teacher could ask that would support anti-bias/diversity inclusive goals, as appropriate for the age group chosen.
One question a teacher could ask related to the book content, that will support advocacy
One follow- up age appropriate learning experience whose learning objective will support one of the anti-bias goals as well as advocacy
Your written paper must cover all the questions posted above and must be referenced in APA style; 2 to 4 pages double spaced.
