Module Assessment: Written Information sheet on a specific health need
Length: 2,000 words
Submission Date: Friday 13th January 2023 by 5pm
How to complete your written information sheet:
At the start of the module you will be allocated a topic on a specific health need or condition which could affect the health of people with learning disabilities. The aim of the information sheet is to disseminate knowledge you have learned when researching your topic to a wider audience.
Structure of your information sheet: Having a structure to your information sheet helps to guide the reader and also helps you to develop your ideas and understanding. Here is an example of the basic structure that we recommend you use for your essay and also for your formative assessment [ please note if you wish to create a different structure you need to discuss with the Module Leader].
- Definition how is the topic defined?
- Incidence how many people does it affect? Is this different from general population? What are the key statistics?
- Problems associated with topic why is this topic important? How does it affect people?
- Possible interventions what can be done to support people?
- Research on topic what research has been done into this topic? Please give short summaries of at least 2 research based Journal articles in this section.
How to go about this assessment
The best way to approach this assignment is to start with an initial literature search around your topic. This would involve putting key words and synonyms into data bases via the Library. You will then be able to source a wide variety of published literature including Journal articles related to your topic. If you are unsure about how to go about literature searching using the Library data base[s] then there are on line resources that you can access via the Library web pages including drop in session on literature searching.
We would recommend that you use the headings above in your essay as this will help you to focus on the key sections and will help the reader to understand the information being presented. Please read and follow the programme guidance for academic referencing in both your information sheet and your formative assessment.
